Dr. Demetria Yarbrough

Dr. Demetria Yarbrough is a board-certified internal medicine physician with specialized training in sleep medicine. She brings years of experience as a hospitalist to Virginia Lung, where she now focuses on how sleep affects—and often improves—complex chronic conditions like heart failure, COPD, diabetes, and liver disease.

A graduate of Eastern Virginia Medical School, Dr. Yarbrough completed her residency at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville before pursuing a fellowship in sleep medicine at Rush University in Chicago. Her clinical background gives her a deep understanding of how fragmented sleep contributes to overall health challenges and how restoring it can transform lives.

“My favorite part of medicine is helping patients see the connection between how they sleep and how they feel,” Dr. Yarbrough says. “When people understand their diagnosis, they’re empowered to make real, lasting change.”

Dr. Yarbrough is especially passionate about education and collaborative care. She takes time to explain the ‘why’ behind every treatment, ensuring that each patient feels confident in their healthcare decisions. Her approach is rooted in trust, clarity, and consistent follow-up; qualities that have helped patients reverse long-standing health issues and regain control of their wellness.

At Virginia Lung, she provides expert care for sleep-related conditions such as obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, and restless leg syndrome, always with the goal of helping patients feel rested, resilient, and fully supported.
